Eric and I took Maddie to our neighborhood pool this morning in an attempt to stay cool. Although Summer hasn't officially started, the hot Texas Summer heat arrived about 2-3 weeks ago. Hello 90s. Goodbye 70s.
Maddie loves to swim. Now that she's older, she tries to kick and paddle a bit and splashes a lot. I have a feeling we'll be spending a lot of time at pool this Summer.

Maddie Milestones We Want to Remember
Maddie seems to do new things all the time. I want to remember as much as I can, so I thought I'd write a few down.
- Knows how to wipe her mouth with a napkin.
- Can go up and down the stairs at our house by herself and without supervision.
- Gets a t-shirt out of my dresser drawer and brings it over to me when she sees me getting ready in the morning.
- Squeezes her fists together and shakes her body when she's being silly. It looks like she's have a fit of anger but she's laughing.
- Loves Taylor Swift with all her heart. We listen to her music all the time.
- Has just enough hair to wear a small hair clip.
- Is most certainly right-handed like her Daddy.
- Likes to pretend to talk on the phone.

Maddie Beats Pneumonia
Last week was pretty tough on Maddie, Eric and me because Maddie had pneumonia. Poor girl battled a high fever, cough, congestion, terrible sore throat and many sleepless nights.
It broke my heart to see Maddie so sick and sad. She wasn't the happy, energetic baby I know and she even lost her appetite. We had planned to meet my family in the Hill Country this weekend for a camping trip but had to cancel so Maddie had plenty of time to recover.
Thankfully, Maddie is feeling much better and is pretty much back to her happy self. Since I had kept Maddie at home for over a week, Eric and I decided to take her to a park this morning to let her get some fresh air and play.
It's so wonderful to see her healthy and smiling again.

Story Time
The week before last, Maddie and I met some friends at a local bookstore for storytime. Before storytime began, the kids ran all around the children's section, looking at books and playing with toys. Once storytime began, it was pretty funny to watch the younger kids like Maddie continue to socialize while listening to the storytime lady a bit. At least the storytime lady didn't seem annoyed.
It was a fun morning and we'll definately return to storytime soon.

Mother's Day Weekend
I had a wonderfully perfect Mother's Day weekend.
On Saturday morning, we took a walk and ended up being part of the Chuy's Hot to Trot 5k that was going on in our neighborhood. We ran a bit of it but made an early exit to have breakfast at a nearby Panera Bread. (Ha!)
We took Maddie to the park and had dinner out that evening.
On Mother's Day, Eric took care of Maddie in the morning for a bit so I could sleep in. Then, he brought her upstairs with a beautiful card she'd colored for me. It made me cry, it was so sweet. Eric made a yummy breakfast for us and took care of chores too. Besides playing with Maddie, I didn't do much the whole day. In the evening, Eric also made a homemade stir-fry which was very yummy.
What a great Mother's Day. I'm so lucky to have a thoughtful husband and sweet baby girl.

Spagetti and Meatballs
Maddie loves when we have spagetti and meatballs for dinner. It's a pretty messy meal for Maddie so we have to strip her down to her diaper so her clothes don't get ruined.
During a spagetti dinner the other night, Maddie decided to put pasta on her toes and feet. She thought it was pretty funny when I kept asking, "Are you puting spagetti on your toes?!"
Needless to say, cleanup took a bit longer that night.

16 Months Old
Maddie is 16 months old today. She's growing by leaps and bounds, understanding more and doing more.
She says, "This?" all day about everything and wants to know all about her world around her.
She's also started imaginary play more. She "cooks" for us with her buckets and pots and pans and feeds us the meals she makes. She also pretends to be a lion sometimes, crawling around and growling. :-)
Happy 16 months to our big girl. We love you!
